Our Approach to Learning
BXCL is a British curriculum school that expects the highest academic standards via a rigorous and professional approach to learning and teaching from FS1 to Year 13.
English is the language of instruction in all subjects except Mandarin and Bahasa language classes.
BXCL follows the Early Years Foundation Stage followed by the National Curriculum for England from Year 1 to Year 13.
Students sit the IGCSE, AS/A2 Level examinations during their education in the Secondary School.
Our highly qualified academic staff encourage a scholarly approach in all our pupils and promote the habits and skills of independent as well as collaborative learners which will equip them not only for success at school but also at university and in their future careers.
The goal of the school is to challenge the pupils to achieve outstanding academic results which will enable their admission to the most highly regarded universities both in the UK and internationally.
BXCL encourages our students to take pride in themselves, their school and their academic successes, whilst maintaining a sense of humility, resilience, kindness and integrity.
Early Years’ Foundation
For our Early Years, we combine direct teaching with a developmental approach – plan, explore and review – to create a structure for the learning process of young minds. Activities are planned using high quality resources, including Information Communications Technology (ICT).
Key Stage 1 & 2 (Year 1 to 6)
Primary Curriculum
Teachers at XCL International School focus on the learning needs of the individual child, with mastery of essential basic skills being one of the school’s fundamental goals. KS1 and KS2 covers all compulsory National Curriculum subjects. Children’s academic progress is closely monitored and tracked. PIRA (Progress in Reading Assessment) and PUMA (Progress in Understanding Mathematics Assessment) are taken at the end of each term. The children sit externally marked PIE (Progress in English) and PIM (Progress in Mathematics). Children in Years 3 and 5 complete the Cat4 assessments (Cognitive Ability Tests) where Verbal, Qualitative, Non-Verbal and Spatial potential are assessed.
Key Stage 3 & 4 (Year 7 to 11)
Secondary Curriculum
The Key Stage Three Curriculum is broad and varied to allow students to experience a breadth of subjects around their core subjects of English, Mathematics and Science. At this level, students are coached to develop skills and knowledge across a range of subjects to prepare them to take on the challenges of IGCSE courses.
The Key Stage Four, commonly referred to as the IGCSE curriculum, is where the students will get to choose from a range of Elective Subjects based on their strengths and interests. With guidance by experienced teachers, students will delve into greater depth in the Core as well as Elective Subjects, forging a path that culminates in the IGCSE public examinations.
Key Stage 5 (Year 12 to 13)
Pre-University Curriculum
At this stage, BXCL prepares students and equips them with the knowledge and skills for university and beyond. We offer the Cambridge International AS and A Level where a range of subjects is offered in almost any combination of choice . This flexibility means that our students can personalise a curriculum that specialises in a particular field e.g. Science, Arts or Commerce.
